ORCHID STUDY GROUP ORCHID DAY
The Orchid Study Group will hold its first Orchid Day at Aberglasney Gardens on Saturday May 16th 2020. This is a new venture for the OSG which we hope will become an annual fixture in your diaries. The event, which will be held between 10am and 4pm, will be free, but the usual entry fees to the Gardens will apply. It has been designed with both newbies to orchid growing and experienced growers in mind, and will comprise two comprehensive series of bite-size talks (approx 15-20 minutes per talk), the first on orchid cultivation and the second on orchid biology. You will be able to attend talks from any or both of these series to match your particular requirements and you should leave at the end of the day fully equipped to grow orchids successfully, supported by a better understanding of orchid biology. There will be demonstrations of the various techniques used in orchid propagation and cultivation and plenty of free advice. You will also be shown how you too can contribute to our scientific knowledge of these plants. Furthermore, Burnham Nurseries, Orchid Botanics and British Orchids will be in attendance selling a wide range of tropical and native terrestrial species to add to your collections. In short, this event will be a one-stop shop to learn more about this remarkable family of plants. This event will not replace the Welsh Orchid Festival held annually at Aberglasney at the beginning of September, but rather, will complement it by encouraging others to engage in the hobby and provide them with the knowledge they require to improve their orchid growing and make it more pleasurable. Do come and support us. We look forward to meeting you!
